Welcome to Pre-K!

Dear Pre-K Family,

 

          Welcome to the wonderful world of Avalon’s Early Childhood Center Pre-K class. I am so excited to be your child’s teacher for the 2012-2013 school year! We are going to have a fantastic time. I am eager to see your child’s growth and success throughout this school year. I would like to take this time to introduce myself and my family, for those of you I have not had the privilege of meeting.

          My name is Melissa Gill. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University. I hold a degree in Early Childhood through fourth grade, as well as a Certification in Nursing. This is my third year teaching at a public school. I have previously taught Pre-K for three years and Kindergarten for one year at a private school in Waxahachie. I am the daughter of Tony & Patty Hernandez, my mom works at the school as Dr. Del Bosque’s secretary. My dad works as a prison guard in Palestine, TX. My sister is Dr. Demitria Hernandez, who is a physician is Buafflo NY. Tony Hernandez Jr., is my brother and the Assistant Principal and Transportation Director at the high school here at Avalon. I married my high school sweetheart, Shane Gill. We both grew up here in Avalon and graduated from Avalon.

           In July 2004, we became proud parents of beautiful twin girls, Kimree & Kaylee and I was very fortunate to be able to spend the last six years at home with my daughters, while attending college to obtain my degree in Early Childhood. Although it has been amazing being a stay at home mom, teaching has also been apart of me as well. I am thrilled to be back at my old school and teaching your child this year! We are going to have a fun filled school year.

This year our class will be following the same C.I.R.C.L.E program, along with our DLM Cirriculumn. This program is a hands on approach to learning. The objective for this program is to engage your child into learning using various settings and manipulatives. We will be implementing several centers in our classroom and your child will be learning by using their skills through auditory (hear), visual (see), and kinesthetic (hands on) learning methods. I have attached some information on this new program incase you would like to know more about what we are doing at Avalon’s Early Childhood Center.

I have a lot of things planned for this year. I have enclosed a little “All About Me” book for your child. Use this book as time to read with them before school starts, so they will recognize who I am on the first day and know a little about me. Parent-teacher communication is very important to me. If we can work together as a team, your childs success in school and life will be amazing. I have attached an information form and an ”All About Me” form about your child for my records and usage, please complete the form and return it to me with your child on the first day of school.
