The Texas Education Agency released offifical accountability rating Friday, July 31 and Avalon ISD is, once again, designated as a "Recognized" school district for 2009 from all tests taken last school year and an evaluation of all subgroups. Avalon ISD was also rated as a "Recognized" district for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
"We are very pleased with this year's results and commend all of our students and staff for the continuous success they have achieved. Our "Recognized" status has become a source of great pride for the entire school community and the community of Avalon. Through the TPM results, we can see how very close we are to reaching our ultimate goal for the rating as an "Exemplary" school district," stated Superintendent David Del Bosque. The new Texas Projection Measurement, used this year for the first time, indicated that Avalon ISD attained 14 Exemplary indicators and one Recognized indicator in a subgroup. To achieve the exemplary status, all measures must be at the exemplary status at 90%. The lone subgroup was two scores short of Exemplary.
Avalon overall district TAKS results, without TPM, for grades three through eleven were: Reading/ELA - 95%; Writing - 89%; Mathematics - 86%; Social Studies - 91%; and Science - 85%.
Del Bosque continued, "As we begin this new school year, we bring high expectations and renewed enthusiasm and high hopes into each classroom. As a staff, we set a common goal for all of our students and that is to bring to them the highest level of instruction and to draw from them their innate enthusiasm to learn and discover. It is always our goal to encourage that enthusiasm and self-discovery as we prepare them for each new stage of their educational experiences."
