Parking Change Affects Front of Elementary

The construction on Hwy 55 in front of the elementary has been ongoing and will continue for some time. However, it has allowed us to reassess the “parking” area in front of the elementary. We have decided, effective immediately, that that area will no longer be an area for cars to be parked for pick up or drop off of children during the morning or afternoon times. It will now be assigned only for temporary stops of 15 minutes or less during the school day. It will be only for parallel parking facing north toward Nash. Parents or visitors may use it to pick up sick children or drop off children who are late, or dropping off items for students or personnel. Signs will be posted soon in this area.

This will alleviate many safety concerns such as backing up onto the highway, vehicle blindspots from angled parking and improve visibility and supervision of our students.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Updated Information on Drop-Off and Pick-Up of Students

AVALON PARENTS ~ Hwy 55 is still under construction in front of the elementary and on toward Nash, along with the use of the highway Pilot Car leading traffic.

Our drop-off and pick-up lanes are fine and will be used as usual in the morning and afternoon. However, the area in front of the elementary will NOT be used for parking until further notice. If you plan to get out of your car with your child, you must park on the side of the MPC/Dome (along Giles Street) and J.P. Griffith gymnasium. The church parking lot is also available. Please do not park in the student parking lot or the faculty areas. There is absolutely no parking in the drop-off/pick-up lanes at any time.

Please allow extra time in your morning and afternoon schedule for the waiting/stopping of the Pilot Car along Hwy 55, or if available, use an alternate route to school. Thank you for your cooperation!
