Required Annual Notification of Nondiscrimination

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the US Department of Education requires schools to follow civil rights laws when offering Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. In Texas, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) oversees CTE programs in public secondary schools and ensures they comply with civil rights laws to prevent discrimination.

To ensure compliance, schools must adhere to guidelines that promote equal opportunities in CTE programs regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or disability. Each year, schools must inform students, parents, employees, and the public about the non-discriminatory nature of their CTE offerings through various means such as newspapers, social media, websites, or other public platforms.

Schools must regularly notify everyone involved—including students, parents, employees, and unions—that they do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age. This information should be included in all materials distributed to these groups. A sample public notification form can be obtained from the TEA for guidance on meeting this requirement.
