Avalon Activity Complex Dedicated to Dr. David Del Bosque

The Avalon ISD Board of Trustees is proud to announce the naming of the Avalon ISD Dr. David Del Bosque Student Activity Complex. The 55 acre complex, situated on Highway 55 and ½ mile from the elementary school, contains the site of the district football field, softball field, baseball field and agricultural barn. The Board is also proud to announce that Dr. Del Bosque’s baseball coaching uniform number “8” will be retired this year.
Avalon Superintendent Khristopher Marshall stated, “All of the accomplishments Avalon ISD enjoyed during Dr. Del Bosque’s tenure had one focus – our students! His vision for those 55 acres of pastureland was to create a place for everyone to gather to enjoy extracurricular activities and just be “kids”. It is another place in Avalon that will long be a place of pride of the community.”
Dr. Del Bosque retired this past June 2019 after 25 years at Avalon ISD, the last 17 serving as the seventh Superintendent in the history of Avalon ISD. At the beginning of those 17 years, the athletic fields on Highway 55 were solely pastureland when purchased. That land was subsequently developed into what is now the current activity complex. During that time, Dr. Del Bosque forged many accomplishments for the district, including the formation of the football program and the planning of the volleyball and softball programs, relocating play to the new Worsham baseball field and the beginnings of our agricultural program. Before that, he coached varsity baseball for 8 years, being named Coach of the Year for four years and the teams reached the Regional Semi-finals two times.
